Weddings
Congratulations!
As you make your plans for your wedding here at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church, please refer to these guidelines.
Keep foremost in your mind that a wedding ceremony is a worship experience. Ceremonies must be in good taste, using proper standards of etiquette and high standards of Christian morality. These guidelines will assist you in planning a beautiful and memorable wedding, one which will properly mark the beginning of a happy Christian marriage.
A 50% deposit of fees is required to reserve the use of the facility. In addition, you must contact the pastor to reserve him/her. Our pastors may schedule two or three pre-marital counseling sessions with you. If you would like to bring your own minister to officiate, notify the Senior Pastor who, at his or her discretion, will invite the minister to participate and conduct the pre-marital counseling.
Please note the following guidelines:
The reservation sheet and the deposit must be completed and returned to the church office before the wedding is entered onto the church calendar. The pastor must be contacted before he/she is assigned to the wedding. A key will be assigned at the time the reservation is made; the key holder is responsible for unlocking the building for florists, caterers, photographers etc. prior to the wedding, and is responsible for locking up after the last person has collected their belongings.
- Alcoholic beverages are not permitted anywhere on our campus.
- The throwing of rice is prohibited. Bird seed is permissible.
- Furniture in the chancel area may not be moved unless by a KHUMC pastor.
- Drip protectors must be used with each lighted candle to protect floors, furniture, carpets and paraments.
- Artificial flowers are not permitted.
- The person who reserves the church is financially responsible for any and all damage.
- The use of staple guns, tacks, nails, glues, etc. in the Fellowship Hall is not permitted.
- Keys must be dropped off immediately at the conclusion of the festivities.
- The entire wedding party should be informed of these policies.
MUSIC
Wedding music must comply with the worship standards of KHUMC and meet the approval of the Pastor or Music Director, who are available to help with selections.
If you choose to use pre-recorded music, you are required to hire the church’s sound technician for both the rehearsal and the ceremony. Any secular music must be pre-approved, and once the ceremony has begun, only sacred music may be played.
If you plan to use the organ or piano, the KHUMC accompanist must be contacted first. If he/she is not available, you will be assisted in securing someone else.
DECORATING THE CHURCH
Only fresh flowers may be used. No ribbons, netting or silk flowers may be used on the altar railing or in the chancel area. Glue may not be used anywhere. A runner must be used down the center aisle if fresh petals are to be dropped. If you choose to leave your flowers for our next worship service, please indicate that on the reservation form.
WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
A record of your wedding will preserve cherished moments for a lifetime. However, unrestricted filming or photography can disrupt the ceremony and is not permitted. Please see that all professionals as well as family and friends are aware of the following:
- All photography procedures must be unobtrusive.
- Flash photography is not permitted during the ceremony by anyone.
- Professionals are NOT permitted in the front of the church during the ceremony.
- Videography is permitted from a stationary position only.
THE SANCTUARY
Our Sanctuary seats 260. There are rooms located to the right and left of the entrance that may be used for changing and staging. Restrooms are located in the wing behind the Sanctuary.
THE FELLOWSHIP HALL
The Fellowship Hall is located down the halls behind the Sanctuary. Tables and chairs are available for 150 people. You are responsible for the set-up and breakdown of all tables and chairs used for the reception. The kitchen may be used with restrictions. The KHUMC Kitchen Committee must be consulted. The clean-up fee does not cover kitchen use; the reservation holder or the caterer is responsible for the complete cleaning of the kitchen including trash removal to the outdoor dumpster.
